Tejas and Rick recapped the week’s news in the natural gas industry. Rick gave us an update on the status of Shell’s proposed Beaver County ethane cracker plant and explained the potential impact of the plant on the U.S. domestic petrochemical industry. Tejas and Rick then discussed the ongoing debate over the use of fracking in New York’s Southern Tier. Governor Andrew Cuomo spoke about the issue Wednesday at a conference in Manhattan stating that there was no timetable for a decision and that he would “let the science dictate the conclusion”. Other topics covered included an update on the Keystone Pipeline project and a discussion about the use of compressed and liquefied natural gas in the transportation sector.
Tejas’ second guest, David Ross, is the Director of Marketing & Business Development at EQT Corporation. EQT is one of the largest natural gas producers in the Appalachian region and recently opened one of the first compressed natural gas stations in the Pittsburgh Area. David and Tejas discussed the current state of the U.S. Natural Gas Vehicle (NGV) market, how it measures up internationally and its prospects for the future. They also talked about the grant that EQT gave to Family House, a local non-profit that provides patients and families who must travel to Pittsburgh for treatment of serious or life-threatening illnesses with a place to stay. EQT financed the purchase and conversion of a shuttle for Family House that will run on compressed natural gas and help transport their guests.
This week’s final guest was the Executive Director of Family House, Christie Knott. Christie explained why there is such a need for organizations like Family House and discussed some of the wonderful work that they do. Family House serves over 12,000 families per year, providing them with an affordable and comfortable place to stay while they or a loved one are going through serious medical treatment. They concluded by talking about the new natural gas powered shuttle from EQT which is set to begin operating in the next couple of weeks.
